I happened to pick up the December issue of Spin the other day and encountered this article chronicling "16 Rock Myths Debunked". It was an interesting read including myths such as:
1. Radiohead Can Do No Wrong
2. Nirvana Killed Hair Metal
3. Lady Gaga Is All Style, No Substance
4. Biggie & Tupac Are Hip-Hop's Pillars
Not a fruitless read, definitely worth a few minutes.
