Music...illegal?

In 1984, a film was released called "Footloose" starring Kevin Bacon, who plays a teenager living in a small suburb of Chicago in which the local reverend, played by John Lithgow, has banned music, deeming it sinful. It was a smash hit. About a month ago, a radical group of Somalian fundamentalist's named Hizbul Islam (shown above) declared that all music is "un-Islamic". However, this is not the plot line of a movie...it is actually happening. "Serious consequences" have been promised to anyone who disobeys. As a result, all radio stations have been forced to cut any and all music from their broadcasts. This includes opening jingles of any sort, for, say, a news reporting station, which have now been replaced with "sounds such as gunfire, the noise of vehicles, and the sound of birds". Music is arguably one of the sole elements left on our planet which is fundamentally universal, as in nondenominational, nonpartisan, nondiscriminatory, unprejudiced, etc. If we can't even have that, then what do we have?
