Earth Girls Are Easy

If you've never seen this movie, you must do so immediately. It's an 80's camp-classic, and it's fucking awesome. Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum play the leads, and they were married when the movie was filmed. Probably one of the most gorgeous celebrity couples of all time, they kick Brangelina's sorry little asses. Jeff Goldblum is, was, and always will be a babe, and he's a total babe in this movie. In the film, three aliens crash their U.F.O. and wind up in the pool of a girl who lives in the valley. Because the pool water damaged the craft, they need to kill time until they can fix it. The girl (Geena Davis) and her friend (Julie Brown), who conveniently owns a salon, decide to give them "human" makeovers to fit in, and ruckus of epic proportion ensues. Also in it are Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans, who play the two other aliens. What more could you possibly ask for?

If you know anything about the blogosphere, or fashion, for that matter, you've probably heard of Tavi, the 13-year-old fashion blogging sensation. Her blog, http://tavi-thenewgirlintown.blogspot.com/, has attracted attention from readers all over the world, and from some of the biggest names in fashion. She was personally invited to New York Fasion week, amongst tons of other incredible opportunities a 13 year old from the suburbs of Chicago could have possibly been given, including countless photoshoots for big publications by big photographers, to most recently becoming the muse for the Rodarte line. Anyways, for a girl of her age and upbringing, she has a suprising knowledge of fashion as well as a very sophisticated taste and an appreciation for fashion concepts most half the world probably couldn't understand. Amoung her favorites are Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons. When the designer collaborated with H&M to create an affordable line for them, Tavi was so excited that she couldn't help but find a more appropriate outlet of expression other than through song of course. Anyways, recently, a writer named Tanya Gold wrote a piece for The Guardian titled "Why I Hate Fashion". Read it here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jan/22/i-hate-fashion-tanya-gold. Quite frankly, it's insulting, and, in my personal opinion, completely nonsensical. I’m one-quarter of the rap group Team Facelift—we’re a mix between Barbra Streisand and Wu-Tang Clan. PUTS in NYC

As you can probably tell from my blog, People Under the Stairs are my most favorite group ever. However, they'e based in L.A. and rarely come to the East Coast. Actually, they're not in the U.S. very often as they have a massive fan following in other countries so they end up playing in places like Brazil and Germany, etc. Buttttttttttt they're currently touring for Carried Away and are coming to NYC !!! I'm going, January 23rd @ Bowery Ballroom. 8:00 p.m. You should too, tickets are only $15.00.

Haus of Gaga

I'm really not sure how I feel about Lady Gaga and have been trying to figure it out for a while. Actually, I kind of suspect that she might actually be a man, as well as just plain insane as in crazy in the head, but that's a whole other story. For one thing, I commend her for doing, saying, and wearing whatever the fuck she wants. I think she's an incredible visionary and I don't think anyone can honestly deny that she's one of the most interesting acts to hit the music scene in a while. Whether you like her or not, she makes you think. She attracts attention, good or bad, and everyone talks about her. However, in terms of her music, it's not anything I'd ever listen to. Sure there are some catchy tunes but none of it appeals to me. It's not anything I'd ever voluntarily subject myself to listening. The good thing is that she can actually sing. I came across this video recently and can't stop listening to it. It's amazing/incredible.

Winter Tube

This show about a Morman polygamist family living in Utah is absolutely genuis, one of my favorites, and returning for its 4th season tonight. Sunday, January 10th @ 9:00 p.m. on HBO.

American Idol is my weakness, as I'm sure is the case for half of America, and it's returning for its 9th season. Replacing Paula Abdul as a permanent judge is Ellen Degeneres, with additional guest judges such as Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, and more. Tuesday, January 12th @ 8:00 p.m. on Fox.

After a terrible last season in L.A., Project Runway returns to NYC for what I'm hoping will be a better turnout than last's. Thursday, January 14th @ 10:00 p.m. on Lifetime.

Ray Tintori

Ray Tintori is an up and coming director that I have a feeling is about to blow up. He has directed MGMT's "Kids", "Time to Pretend", and "Electric Feel" music videos, as well as The Killers' "Spaceman" and Chairlift's "Evident Utensil" music videos, which was nominated at this years VMA's. In addition, Spike Jonze just recruited him this summer to write, direct and produce a new film called "Light Boxes". His first short film is one named "Jettison Your Loved Ones" which showed at the Slamdance Film Festival. His sophomore effort is one named "Death to the Tinman". It was made for his senior thesis at Wesleyan University, from which he graduated in 2006. In 2007 it showed at the Sundance Film Festival and recieved an award. This film was brought to my attention by my English teacher, Mr. Illman, who was Tintori's teacher way back when. Tintori contacted Mr. Illman when he made this video because he wanred him to be in it, as Mr. Illman is critically acclaimed for his excellent reenactments of Shakespeare verbatim from memory during class time. He plays the character of Paul. He showed it to us in class the other day and I can't stop re-watching it. It's really a cool film. There's so many layers and you can tell it was extremely well thought out. I love the plot and there's a million different little aspects that add to its genius. Sooooooo.....watch it.

Carried Away

I'm conflicted about this album. The problem is that People Under the Stairs are so incredible, it's truly impossible for them to make bad music. They keep releasing albums almost every year and they're all consistently good. The thing is that they haven't really made anything mind blowing since The Next Step and O.S.T. It's like they've hit a pinnacle and can't go any farther. I don't want to be disappointed in Carried Away, and I'm not, just a little bored. Anyways, Carried Away is by far the dopest track on the album.

Ghost is one of my favorite MC's of all time. Although some people may call this album wack, it's far from disappointing. There's a lot of R&B and lots of collaborations, but he's already defined himself enough that he's able to release an album like this. He's older now so instead of just spitting about bitches and gat's he's telling stories of a more solitary life. Not to say that there isn't some of that classic in there, because there definitely is. Lyrically he's as on point as ever as well. He's almost 40 now and this album definitely shows a more mature side of him without losing that special Starks flavor. He definitely continues to live up to his self-proclamation as "one of the most creative niggas in the game."

Leffot is a relatively new men's shoe store in Greenwich Village. I know I'm a girl, but these shoes are so beautiful I'm foaming at the mouth. I would most nearly die for a pair in my size, despite the prices ranging from $385 to $1,250 (I know, I know, but so worth it!!!).
